Capitation and expenses in the primary healthcare

(28 June 2012)

In the process of transition and transformation of the Macedonian healthcare one of the biggest reforms that were implemented was the introduction of capitation in primary healthcare. The introduction of capitation was followed by dilemmas over how much do doctors actually earn. For some the earnings were overestimated, and for others too low and unrealistic. In order to determine the real situation, Helathgrouper conducted a survey among family doctors working in the Republic of Macedonia to determine exactly how much they earn compared to expenses that go to the maintenance of their practices. The survey was conducted electronically on a defined population of practitioners working in the primary healthcare. Fixed and variable expenses are listed in the report. Our research shows that family doctors do not earn more than the state doctors, and they have incomparably more responsibilities.
